About

How Florida Probate Weekly works

The Florida Probate Weekly team builds one thing: a list of every new probate estate in Hillsborough and Lee County, matched to the house, with the sources to check it.

How we pull it

Each weekday we read the Hillsborough Clerk's published new-case file and, monthly, the Lee Clerk's list. We keep the probate estate cases, then match each decedent's address and name to the county property appraiser's records. Every row keeps its Clerk filing link, its property record link and the date we pulled it.

How we check it

Each match gets a confidence level. High means the decedent is named as an owner of the house. Medium means the owner shares the surname (a relative may own it) or the match is by name only. Before a list goes out, automated checks compare its counts to the Clerk file. Last week: 62 estates, 27 tied to a house, 11 of them high confidence.
